Mysterious world of art

Updated: Mar 23, 2022

World of art is mysterious. Once one enters, the cornucopia unfolds, and mystery invigorates the spirit. One lives a better life. That is why, art brings peace in this world. And painting is the seed to grow the tree of expressions.

Painting allows us to experience wide ranges of emotion. Joy, sorrow, confusion, or clarity. It gives voice to ideas and feelings, connects us to the past, reflects the present, and anticipates the future. Webster's New Collegiate dictionary defines art as the "conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects."

The word, painting, can be abbreviated as follows:

P – portrayal

A – association

I – illustration

N – novice ideas

T – tracing

I – imagination

N – narrative

G – graphics

In other words, we can say, it is our personal association with our thought, imagination, and ideas. It is a way to project our perspective, emotions, feelings on paper. We can capture and store the moments permanently with our creativity. Yet art is much more than a medium, or words on a page. It is the expression of our experience.

In this world racing at a furious pace, mankind needs rest and peace of mind. Art enables the artist and the viewer to live in the moment. Time disappears. Deadlines vanish. Peace and calm prevail.

Art, or any creative processes so to speak, can be a protective factor that strengthens individuals and communities and acts as a buffer against ill health. It enhances self-esteem and self-confidence in a magical way when an individual can express her feelings and the message is successfully communicated to the viewer. The process of setting a goal to create something, and then meeting that goal, also has positive effect on self-esteem and self-confidence. Art can also have powerful effects on an individual’s perception of pain. Art changes the attitude towards various emotions sweeping through the mind.

As for paintings, colors play the most critical role.

Bright colors can make you feel happy while darker shades can make you feel glum. There are also specific colors that remind us of different emotions. For example, how does red feel? Red is the colour of love in one community and in another it represents anger. In fact, in some other community in the world, red stands for death. Cool colors include blues, greens, and purples. To most people, cool colors conjure up the spirit of a wintry climate.

So, different colors invoke different mood. Mood means the feeling we encounter when we look at a work of art. We can create the mood by selecting warm or cool colors to convey the emotion we want.

An artist enjoys her own private sanctuary, a secret fairy land. So, pluck the fruit of that magic world and be creative!

Art is creating the extra-ordinary out of the ordinary. It asks questions about who we are, what we value, and it tells us the meaning of beauty and the human condition.
