Pleasurable Anxieties - a solo Show of by Shanmukh Tamada at Jehangir Art Gallery

Shanmukh's mixed media paintings remind of an old proverb - Don't miss the forestfor a tree! In fact, the reverse is true as well. It is not a good idea to miss the tree because the forest is too big!

It is an uncanny analogy to any artwork. But when you stand before any one of his artworks, you tend to encounter not one but multitude of artworks at the same space. One appears and the other seems to recede into absence. You embark on a tantalizing journey of visual illusion. His artworks are reminders of the eternal truth that all forms are transitory and illusive in nature.

The technique adopted by Shanmukh does not confirm to any convention. His favorite medium is industrially made foils. Multi-colored foils are used with dexterous coats of acrylic paints on canvases. Tamada works on them like an action painter in order to create psychedelic landscapes. The images keep changing shapes in the eyes of the beholder depending on the distance.

“Looking at the foils I realized that they are like life. Shiny, glittering, tough but brittle. Plenty of efforts are needed to break it but a sharp edge can easily slice through it! I started off with the foils on an experimental basis almost a decade ago and now that has become the most comfortable medium for me,” says Tamada.

Shanmukh Rao Tamada aka Shanmukh Tamada hails from Vishakhapatanam and was trained under the famous sculptor, Ravinder Reddy. After his education in art at the Fine Arts College at Vizhag, Tamada came to Delhi to set up his studio a nd ever since he has been participating in group shows in Delhi and elsewhere.

This exhibition had been inaugurated by veteran artist, Shri Prabhakar Kolte. Eminent historian and curator Shri. JohnyML had been the guest of honor.

Overall, this exhibition is an unmissable visual treat for art lovers.
